Drugs Free Society Nepal was established with the objective of helping people indulged in drugs and alcohol problems who are on the slippery edge of addiction and homelessness. Make an addiction free society by giving awareness programs about problems caused by different types of drugs and alcohol to oneself, family and the society. Making people aware of how to prevent being prey to addiction, how to help addicts as addiction is a disease that can be cured, what are the roles of family during the recovering period so they don’t relapse and how to rehabilitate them after their recovery.
Our
inspiration
My team and I share a common background as recovering addicts, each of us having undergone treatment at different times and through various means. Our inspiration for engaging in social work stems from the realization that we were once recipients of help during our own battles with addiction. Having broken free from the chains of addiction, we understand the profound impact that support can have. This understanding led us to acknowledge the unfortunate reality that many individuals, wanting to break free from addiction, are financially unable to afford rehabilitation services. Recognizing the expense and profit-driven nature of many rehabilitation centers, we conceived a selfless program—a self-helping initiative—aimed at providing assistance to those who are economically disadvantaged. Our mission is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a chance at recovery, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Our
program
Our institution operates as a disciplined school, emphasizing a strict routine of activities and classes to keep individuals occupied throughout the day. Our program is centered on physical, mental, and spiritual discipline for each participant. We adhere rigorously to the principles of NA (Narcotics Anonymous) and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) programs, both in theory and practice. A typical day commences with physical exercises, Yoga-Meditation, input classes, and family time where individuals share their recovery journeys. Group counseling, individual counseling, and family counseling play integral roles in our holistic approach. Outdoor games provide a daily outlet for recreation. Operating on a self-help philosophy, work therapy assigns daily responsibilities, instilling a sense of honesty and accountability. We celebrate occasions with diverse games and special foods, fostering a familial atmosphere regardless of backgrounds. Our overarching goal is to facilitate individuals in transitioning to a better and new life in society. Additionally, we are in the process of establishing a mental health care center to address the prevalent mental health challenges among addicts and others.
